Airport hotels.

*sigh*

From my recent reviews, you would think I lived in them.

Oh wait, that is because I practically do.

Alrighty then.

The Sheraton Cleveland Airport Hotel is another one of those properties where I’ve had a number of stays across several years. I love it for both its convenience (a short hop from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport) and its price (generally less expensive on a corporate rate than anything in the city or to the west where I often go for work).

Arrival

I picked up a rental car before arriving at the hotel as I’d need to leave early the next morning to head out to work. Overnight parking is in a reserved area behind the hotel. One enters through a back door near the indoor Holidome-style chlorine-scented pool area and walks through it to the main lobby.

Check In

Check in was quick and efficient via a small lobby desk area. It had a temporary feel although I could not tell if it actually was.

My Starwood Platinum status was recognized and I noticed they went out of their way to recognize others as well. The gentleman checking in ahead of me was even offered a room upgrade.  Hmmmmm….

I was assigned room 934 0n the Starwood Preferred Guest floor.

The Room

The room was a fairly basic king room.  Clean and functional – but what struck me was that everything was in good condition.  One of the things that can be bothersome about airport hotels is how shabby many of them are, even after multiple refurbishments.  I’ve stayed at this property multiple times across the last decade – the latest refresh has kept the crispness consistent.

The bathroom was slightly larger than the typical airport hotel standard room facilities.    The vanity area gave me generous room for makeup and hair products.  It’s clear the shower/tub has been remade a couple of times but its functional.

The property’s location gives some rooms a moderate view of the airport although others are more industrial.  I ended up with the more lackluster view this time.

But the sunrise view made the industrial setting look spectacular!

Other Considerations

One of my favorite things about this property is how well the address the needs of corporate travelers.  Its common for many of us to travel in packs.  The hotel provides conference tables near the elevator areas on many of the floors so that teams can meet together to work.  I love that concept as the main lobby is often too loud of an area to work in and sometimes its uncomfortable to work in hotel rooms when you are a mixed team.  This is a great idea of how a property can be sensitive to the needs of its travelers.

The property also has a Club Lounge – it is reasonably sized and provides a comfortable space for breakfast or evening snacks.

Hemispheres is the hotel’s restaurant.  The focus on regional cuisine is a refreshing hotel trend and the evolution of the menu here to feature local Ohio beef, poultry, and fish allows for a healthy selection of proteins alongside regional farm favorites.  The lounge area was fairly busy while the restaurant was quiet so I opted to eat in the lounge.  My one minor complaint was a random pre-teen who kept plunking down into the seat across fro me me (fairly awkward since I was at a cocktail table for two).  The waitress was unwilling to ask him to quit roaming the bar in that manner.

Check Out

My check out was quick – always a plus when I’m running late to get on the road (my normal operating mode).  My bill was correct and I was on my way quickly!

I would not hesitate to stay at this property again.  It provides an easy way to pick up Starwood stays in the region and its a functional hotel for any traveler needing a hotel close to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
