There was big news out of Los Angeles International Airport yesterday that will affect many passengers with LAX flights in mid-May, particularly those involving Delta.  21 airlines will shuffle across 4 terminals in a multi-night move designed to streamline long-term operations at the airport.

Beginning on Friday May 12, three sequential overnight moves will take place, each two nights apart.  Sunday May 14 and Tuesday May 16 will be the other move dates.

Personally, I will avoid booking Delta tickets that involve LAX flights between May 12 and May 19 as I would expect minor operational disruptions to occur for a few days.  Delta had minor gate moves in Terminal 6 earlier this year that created rolling delays for their LAX flights due to operational interruptions.  Those were caused by minor issues ranging from agents having to operate new jet bridges at gates to alleyway traffic patterns.

Overall this move is a positive and I will be more likely to book LAX flights in the future (outside of the move window).  Delta will have a range of new facilities from Delta ONE premium check in to a new Delta Sky Club.  I’ve previously tried to avoid Delta’s LAX flights due to the unpleasant terminal experience.  Now I may use them as a regular west coast connection point.
