People ask me if I play golf. I always answer that I love to hit a small white ball around a golf course but that calling what I do ‘playing’ is extremely generous. But golf is all about being out in nature and there are many beautiful places in this world. The Caribbean is simply made for golf destination travel. I’m fortunate to have played many while traveling, living, and working there.

Here are my favorite 3 Caribbean golf destinations.

Aruba – Tierra del Sol Resort & Golf

tierra del sol aruba golf course arubaAruba is a beautiful place. It is rustic and rugged. Desert and stunning beaches. I compare it to the Texas Hill Country meets the ocean. Throw in a golf course and then you have something truly special. This course on the far north tip of the island has hills, valleys, and beautiful ocean views all of which highlight the arid, rocky landscapes. You are more likely to lose your ball in the cactus than the trees here. And don’t worry about the iguanas. They’re harmless.

In December 2016, Tierra del Sol hosted the Aruba Cup. Top players from the Canadian and Latinoamerica PGA Tours competed in three days of match play, ala Ryder Cup.

Sandy Lane (Green Monkey Course) – Barbados

It’s built in an old quarry and is for the exclusive use of resort guests. Although there are a few other courses on the outstanding property, this was my favorite by far.

Santa Barbara – Curacao

Although a bit far from downtown Willemstad, the protected UNESCO historic district where the cruise ships dock, the resort itself is an amazing destination. Of course, the service is outstanding as well.
