A new targeted offer is out today from American Airlines offering bonus double or triple miles on premium class (business or first class) flights through August 31.

I received the offer for triple miles in my inbox a short time ago with the following text:

Hello Jennifer,

An exclusive offer for you
Sign up to earn 3X award miles

You’ve been selected to earn triple award miles on First and Business class tickets through August 31.

Here’s how it works:

  • Register before you travel using promotion code (redacted)
  • Purchase and fly on First and Business class tickets on qualifying flights*
  • Earn triple award miles on all those flights through August 31, 2017

Sign up by June 7

And don’t forget: You earn Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) at a higher rate when you purchase travel in First or Business – up to 3 EQMs per mile – getting you to elite status even faster.

Terms and Conditions

This is an exclusive offer only for members who received an email directly from American Airlines. You must register by 11:59 p.m. CDT on June 7, 2017, and prior to travel in order for your flights to count toward this promotion. * AAdvantage® bonus mileage offer is only valid for travel on American Airlines marketed flights (operated by American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Finnair or Japan Airlines). Flights marketed and/or operated by other codeshare partners are not eligible for this promotion. Offer applies to purchased published fares in First Class booked in F or A; Business Class fares booked in J, R, D or I. Triple miles will be calculated at 200% of the base award miles earned for the eligible flights (excludes award miles earned from elite bonuses). Bonus miles do not count toward elite status qualification or AAdvantage® Million MilerSM status. Travel flown prior to registration for this promotion is not eligible for the bonus mile offer.

A quick check of a few internet frequent flyer groups shows some members there have received the same offer while others have been targeted for a double miles offer.

I have redacted the promotion code since this is a targeted offer. There appear to be a few different codes floating around.  One variation of the triple miles offer I’ve seen requires the user must fly at least 4 qualifying flights first.

This offer will definitely get used by me as I’ve been buying up to premium cabins frequently this year.  I have not wanted to rely on complimentary upgrades for my work trips so my requalifying is well over the halfway mark already for the year.

Did you receive a targeted bonus miles offer from American Airlines today?

Clarification

(Post has been corrected to clarify earlier language which stated “triple EQMs”.  Offer is for “triple bonus miles” and goes on to remind users that they already earn EQMs at a higher rate – up to 3x when buying first or business class fares!  Thank you to keen-eyed readers!)

    • Thank you! Corrected… I read that several times and I get the math now. (The EQMs can be triple but that is normal!)

  1. Not EQM, *award* miles. And what code do buy ups book into?

So…a decent promotion if you’re a loyalist piling on miles.

    • It’s fixed now. On my end, I buy up to first when I’m purchasing the fare and then just expense the economy portion. So the code it books into depends on what is available. Its rarely full F though.

  2. Be much more valuable if it was an EQD bonus. Im making progress for EXP but EQDs are going to be the difference for me.

    • Definitely. Based on my conversations with folks at AA I would speculate that is not likely in 2017. I think once we start seeing the new order on the upgrade lists based on rolling EQDs that we’ll all start to get a better idea of where we all fall in terms of EQDs and how others are doing.
