The popular LED Bay Bridge lights in San Francisco will be coming down on Friday, according to The Bold Italic.

Originally intended to be a temporary installation to honor the redesign of the bridge, the lighted bridge has become a new background for iconic photos of San Francisco.  As such, a not-for-profit group has raised money to make the lights a permanent fixture.  They will come down after Friday for bridge maintenance and then will reappear in 2016 in time for Super Bowl L (the 50th).

If you will be in San Francisco this week, you can catch a last glimpse of the current installation at one of two special events:

* Thursday March 5 at 7:30 pm – There will be a commemorative ceremony.  The first 1,000 to arrive will receive a com reactive LED tea light.  (@ Waterbar, 399 The Embarcadero)

* Friday March 6 at 5:45 am – Free coffee and pastries with a string quartet to accompany the last hour of the bridge’s illumination.  (@ EPIC Roasthouse, 369 The Embarcadero)

We are personally sad to have not snapped any great photos during the many trips taken across the Bay Bridge over the past two years on numerous journeys back and forth the the East Bay.  But the lights were always spectacular!
