Freddie Awards voting for 2017 opened a few days ago and your favorite travel programs may have already tipped you off with an early plea to vote.

The Freddie Awards recognize excellence in travel loyalty programs and are highly coveted by airlines, hotels, and credit card issuers.  Winning a Freddie gives a program bragging rights for marketing.  Also, the awards often signal to other programs the pulse of travel consumers.  In recent years, airlines and hotels have actively encouraged their member base to participate in Freddie Awards voting.

Freddie Awards voting this year runs from February 15 through March 31.  For the first time, voting will be available in 13 languages, with Hindi and Turkish added for 2017.  The awards recognize excellence for programs not only in the Americas but also Europe & Africa as well as the Middle East & Asia/Oceania.

On the first day of Freddie Awards voting this year, over 100,000 votes were cast, a new record.  In 2016, 3.5 million travelers cast votes making the Freddie Awards the gold standard for loyalty program excellence.

About the Freddie Awards

The Freddie Awards are named for Sir Freddie Laker, an aviation pioneer who founded Great Britain’s first all-jet airline.  He was instrumental in the design and development of London’s Gatwick Airport.  I had the honor of meeting the late Sir Freddie at his eponymous awards ceremony many years ago.

Last year, Southwest Airlines and their Rapid Rewards won Program of the Year for airlines for the Americas.  Also, Marriott Hotels and their Marriott Rewards won Program of the Year for hotels.  The Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express won Best Loyalty Credit Card.  Within Europe & Africa, French brands took top honors in all categories and Virgin Australia was the big winner across the Middle East & Asia/Oceania.

You can find out which programs are recognized in the 27th annual ceremony on April 27.  This year, the ceremony will be held at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson.

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite programs as well.
